Joint-friendly exercises approved by the Arthritis Foundation in our warm water therapy pool, such as walking, stretching and range-of-motion exercises are done in shallow water and focus on activities of daily living. Exercising in the heated pool decreases pain and stiffness, increases muscle and joint flexibility, and improves the performance of daily activities. A swimsuit is required, aqua shoes and water to drink are encouraged.
Exercise is known to be an essential part of arthritis treatment. Done regularly, strengthening, stretching and cardiovascular activities reduce pain, improve lung and heart health and restore or maintain flexibility and strength. Aquatic workouts do all this, too, while putting less stress on joints and allowing more movement with less strain. Warm pool water relaxes muscles and nerve endings. Our YWCA Pekin pool is maintained at 89℉ year round.
Arth/Fibro Aquaerobics classes are held Tuesdays at 9:00 am, Mondays at 5:30 pm and Wednesdays at 5:30 pm
